GP du Cap d’Antibes

April 4th, 2009

It was a Saturday and today’s race was on the Cap d’Antibes. It was only a 30 minute ride mostly down hill from where I am now living in Placassier. The race was an FSGT 1st, 2nd, 3rd category race. The FSGT is like the TLI, it is just another cycling organisation that organises its own series of races. I think the 1.2.3 races are similar level to 2nd Cat FFC.

Salon en Provence Circuit Race

March 29th, 2009

It was an nice early start thanks to daylight saving. The race was Salon en Provence, near Marseille, so it was about a 3 hour drive. We were up at 5 am and it was raining as it was the day before. The race was a 60km Circuit race for 2nd and 3rd category riders . I don’t like rain it makes racing more tactical and limits the speed. The circuit was ~1.5km the corners weren’t too tight although they had big white painted stop lines that scared me slightly especially after my crash in my first race here. There were also a couple of height restriction barriers on the circuit that I am sure could have decapitated me if I didn’t ride on my drops.

March 15th, 2009

Today was a big day for SC Nice. It was our home town race on the Promenade des Anglais which preceded the Paris – Nice Tour’s final stage. There were a lot of people watching and SC Nice were also promoting the event so expectations were high.

GP Monaco Crit

March 8th, 2009

My race, a 1.2.3 cat event, started at 3:30pm but because Matt was racing the 3rd cat race at 9:30am I had a lot of waiting around to do. Still, I can think of worse places to be than Monaco and ther was plenty of racing to watch. It was sunny but a bit cold, about 14 degrees. The race was on ~1km circuit next to the docks. It was basically two straights with a narrow hairpin at one end and a sweeping bend at the other. Before the start I was told to work for Jimmy, one of SC Nice’s top juniors, and I think they were hoping I could do something after seeing me ride on the flat.

St. Raphael Training Camp

March 5th, 2009

I wasn’t that down beat about my crash in the road race a least I managed to finish. I made it 1h40m into the race and I survived the major split that took out half of the peleton. SC Nice had about 15 riders in the race and as far as I could tell there were only 5 left including me when I crashed. The race did start fast for the first hour but it was the crashes caused it to split up. It was raining up until I fell off then it started to dry out. The race was the same as most of the French races I have done; an early break went and small groups bridged up to it. I was happy to sit there for the first half and since there was a SC Nice rider trying to get up there so I left him to it. My crash was unfortunate, it was just a case of touching my brakes at the wrong time and being on white paint. A couple of other riders came off too. I was soaking wet and cold so I couldn’t get going quick enough to get back on. I was going to pull out but I waited at the turn off for the HQ then another two SC Nice riders came by so I went with them. The last car had came by us just after I joined them so I thought that was it. Fortunately we managed to over take it thanks to a back log of traffic and it stayed behind us for the rest of the race.
